Sony fans all over the world are getting excited this week regarding a little event in Berlin tomorrow night called IFA. Long story short, it's been an annual event for about 90 years now where technology manufacturers show off their latest and greatest gadgets. Sony is no exception and are set to revealing their new flagship device and replacement for last year’s Xperia Z. It's called the Xperia Z1 . Here are all the latest rumours surrounding the new device.
Waterproof two-tone metal case
Metal cases are now something we expect to see on mobile phones. Apple started the trend, with HTC recently following suit. However none of these phones pull it off quite as nicely as the Z1. Pictures leaked on the internet this week show a very slim , stylish case available in black or white.
The other specification we like is the waterproof feature. Just like the Xperia Z, the Honami is reported to be 100% waterproof for depths of up to 1 metre for up to 30 minutes. Is this alone enough to lure you away from the flagship Samsung or Apple? Probably not. But very handy to know that it will stay fighting fit if you accidently drop it in the sink!
20.7-megapixel camera
Now here’s something to get excited about. The Z1 will boast a 20.7-megapixel sensor for crystal clear photographs. There is also an ‘aspheric’ lens designed to take in more light, and Sony’s dedicated image processor called ‘BIONZ’ is also expected to feature. Expect good things from this camera: from selfies to cat pictures galore! Also, there’ll be a front-facing camera, apparently weighing in at 2 megapixels.
Another interesting rumour is 4K recording. For those who haven’t heard of 4K before, basically it’s 4 times the resolution of HD. This rumour is interesting because the phone’s 5-inch HD screen won’t even be able to display whatever you’ve recorded at full quality! That said if you’re lucky enough to own a 4K TV, you’ll love the quality of the recorded videos.
Under the hood
Rumours suggest that the Honami will be powered by a 2.2Ghz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. The phone is likely to have 16GB of internal storage, although there have been rumours of a 32GB version too. To be honest, either is fine with us as the Z1 will have a Micro SD card slot . Essential for any phone in our opinion!
Other than that, the Z1 will have all the bits and bobs you would expect from a flagship smartphone. Rumours suggest that the Z1 will be extremely well equipped and should cater for the needs of any user!
