Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 was finally unveiled at the IFA 2013 in Berlin and it’s safe to say that it looks pretty darn good! The head of Samsung’s mobile department introduced the phone as lighter, slimmer, larger, faster and longer-lasting then the previous two incarnations. Here is the official spec list for the handset.
Screen
The new Samsung Note 3 is to have a 5.7 inch, full AMOLED screen, supporting a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Samsung are keen to point out that although the screen is a little larger than the Note 2, the overall proportional saving means it does not necessarily feel any bigger.
Internals

The Note 3 will come with a 2.3GHz quad-core chip in the LTE model and a 1.9GHz octa-core for the 3G variant. It will feature Android’s 4.3 operating system and a generous 3GB of RAM. This means that multitasking will be improved without any significant slowdown. In fact, during the IFA launch and announcement of the phone, Samsung executives showed off two ‘chat-on’ conversations side by side. Due to the sheer power and size of the Note 3, it will also support a larger 3200mAh battery, which will improve the battery life. The phone will also come in either a 16gb or 32gb version, with an expandable sd card to bump this up to 64gb.
S Pen

Samsung has also integrated the S Pen more into the functionality of the Note 3. Some of the features include:
- Air Command: If you hold the S Pen onto the phone display, you will be presented with a menu. This allows you to take notes quickly.
- Pen Windows: This allows the user to truly multitask. By drawing any size of window on the phone display, users can open another app within, such as YouTube or the browser.
- Scrapbook: Scrapbook is a function connected to Air Command. You simply circle any content on the phone display and this will place it into the scrapbook app. You can also circle a video on the screen and this can then be viewed within the app.
Security

Samsung have included KNOX into the Note 3. This is enterprise-grade software previously controlled by Blackberry. However, this secure space is now wide open with the likes of both Samsung and Apple both making strong gains. KNOX will enable the user to run sensitive applications and data inside a protected environment. This will keep the user’s data safe from hacking, data leakage and you can store emails, contacts and calendars within there.
Overall
As one of Samsung’s flagship handsets, the Note 3 is a very powerful mobile device. Samsung continue to bring new and innovative features to the market and it seems to be a handset that will cater for every demographic and user. Both personal and business users will revel in the new additions to the Note 3. We can’t wait to get our hands on the Note 3 upon launch!
