Kid’s Corner is a great little feature on Windows Phone 8, which lets you leave your phone with your child and let them listen to music, play videos and certain apps without letting them have unrestricted internet access, or allow them to check your messages or make phone calls.

First, let’s take you through setting up Kid’s Corner.

  • From the start menu, select Kid’s Corner - if it isn’t there, you can access it from within Settings. Press next.
  • Kids CornerYou’ll now have a list of Games, Music, Videos and Apps. Tap the category you want, and put a tick next to the items you wish to be accessible from within Kid’s Corner. Press Next when you’re done.
  • If you don’t have a password set for your lock screen, you can set one now optionally. It’s recommended, as without a password a user can get out of Kid’s Corner and directly into your phone!
  • Tap Finish which will launch you into Kid’s Corner so you can give it a whirl.

To get into the Kid’s Corner simply swipe left from your homescreen to the Kid’s Corner screen, and it functions just like your normal start screen, but only with the content you specify.

A few things to note – if you do have a password, every time the phone is powered off or goes into standby, you’ll have to enter the code again.

Internet explorer cannot be added, so the internet cannot be freely browsed. Do note that links within games or applications can be followed, but they cannot leave the page to browse freely. If you wish to forbid all internet access, be sure only to allow apps or games which don’t have links within them.
