When you turn on your iPhone 6s for the first time you will need to complete a setup wizard, which will configure basic aspects of your new phone. This will include connecting to Wi-Fi, and setting up your iTunes account. Don't worry, we'll guide you through it.

IPHONE 6s SETUP WIZARD
To begin the setup, make sure you have inserted the SIM card into the phone. You do not need to connect your new iPhone to your computer, as long as you have an internet connection available for activation.
You can go back one page in the setup screen by tapping the Back arrow in the top left-hand corner of each screen. To move forward to the next screen, tap the Next button in the top right-hand corner.
Lets get started by pressing the power button on the right-hand edge of your new iPhone to turn it on. You may need to hold it in for a second or so until you feel a vibration, which means the phone is starting up:
- Swipe across the screen to begin the setup wizard.
- Select your language - English is at the top of the list to make it easy to find, but if you wish to use a different language just scroll down until you find the one you need, then tap on it to select.
- Select your country - United Kingdom is at the top of the list for easy selection, but if you are elsewhere in the world choose the most appropriate option for your location.
- You will need to connect your iPhone 6s to the internet to activate it. This is easily achieved by connecting to a Wi-Fi network. Find the name of your network in the list, and tap on it to select it.

- Enter the wireless password (this may be shown on your router, and might be called the WPA key, WEP key, or wireless passphrase) and tap Join.
- A tick will show that you are connected, and a Wi-Fi symbol appears on the notifications bar at the top of the screen. The iPhone will now activate with Apple automatically, and when that has completed the next screen will appear. This can take several minutes!
- Choose whether to enable Location services by tapping on the appropriate line. Location services help with mapping, weather apps, etc, all of which need to know where you are.
- You will then be asked about setting up Touch ID, which is Apple's name for its fingerprint recognition system, allowing you to use your fingerprint in place of your passcode or password. To set up Touch ID, place a finger or thumb on the home button (but don't press it!) as instructed on screen. To skip this, tap Set Up Touch ID Later.
- If you're setting up Touch ID, the screen will guide you through the steps required. Due to the way the screenshots we're illustrating this guide with are taken, we can't show you the screens relating to the Touch ID setup, but we can tell you how to do it! Place your finger onto the home button, lifting it off and replacing it as requested. When the iPhone has successfully scanned your fingerprint, you will be asked to move your finger to allow the edges of your print to be scanned as well. When your fingerprint is fully scanned, you will see a screen telling you that Touch ID is ready. Tap Continue.
- You will then be asked about setting up a Passcode to secure your iPhone 6s. If you've set up Touch ID you will have to use a Passcode, in case you are unable to use your fingerprint to unlock your handset for any reason. Securing your data is always a good idea, and the iPhone 6s gives you several options. Tap Passcode options to choose your lock method.
- You can set a Custom Alphanumeric Code (which is a password using letters and numbers), a Custom Numeric Code (numbers only, but as many digits as you like!) or a 4-digit Numeric Code (a good old-fashioned PIN!). If you didn't set up Touch ID you will also have an option to Don't Add Passcode. Tap your chosen security option to select it.
- In our example we're setting a 4-digit Numeric Code, but all passcode options set up in the same way. Enter your chosen Passcode using the onscreen keyboard.
- Confirm your Passcode by entering it again. If the entered Passcodes don't match, you'll be asked to do it again! If they do match, you will go on to the next screen automatically.

At this point in the setup you will be asked about Apps & Data. If you have been using an iPhone and are upgrading to the 6s, you can restore all of your Apps & Data quickly and easily from an iCloud or iTunes backup by selecting that option on the phone. If this is your first iPhone you will want to set it up as new, but if you are moving from Android to iPhone you can transfer much of your data by selecting that option on screen.
Click the link below that corresponds with your choice in order to get the correct instructions on this screen.
Restore from an iCloud or iTunes backup
If you wish to restore your iPhone from an iTunes backup, you will need to have the computer used for the backups in front of you, and have the latest version of iTunes installed. When you are ready to proceed, tap Restore from iTunes Backup on your iPhone 6s and connect it to your computer when prompted. Instructions on how to restore will then appear in iTunes on the computer screen.
If your old iPhone was backing up to iCloud, then follow the instructions below to restore your apps & data to your new phone:
- Tap Restore from iCloud Backup.
- Sign in with the Apple ID and password that you used on your old iPhone. If you can't remember the password there's a link to help you reset it.
- You will see a screen advising you how to back up your data before restoring. Read the guidance notes to ensure your old handset is correctly backed up, and when you're ready to proceed tap Continue.
- The inevitable Terms & Conditions screen will then show. Tap any links to expand the sections you wish to look at more closely, and when you're ready to proceed tap Agree.
- Prove to Apple that you really, really do by tapping Agree again!
- You will see a list of available backups on screen. The latest backup will be shown at the top, with any others you could use below it. If you wish to restore from an earlier backup, tap Show all backups to see all the available options.
- Tap on the backup you wish to restore in order to start the restoration.
- A progress bar and estimated time remaining will show to give you an indication of the restoration's progress. Once the restoration is complete, the handset may restart.
- You will see a screen telling you that your iPhone was updated successfully. Tap Continue.
- To complete the iCloud setup on your newly restored iPhone 6s, you will need to re-enter your iCloud (Apple ID) password. Use the on screen keyboard to enter it, then tap Next.
- You may be prompted to update the security information linked to your Apple ID. If so, it is always a good idea to do this to ensure access to your account is not list. Tap the appropriate line to update your information, or to skip this tap Not Now, then tap Next.
- Apple Pay is Apple's secure payment system which allows you to store encrypted credit or debit card details on your handset and then using your iPhone 6s in tandem with your fingerprint to let you make contactless payments. Tap Next to proceed.
- To add a card, simply place it on a flat surface and move the iPhone 6s over it so that the card is positioned in the frame onscreen. The card details will be read automatically, and you will be asked to confirm that the details match. You will also be asked to enter the CVV (security code) from the signature strip on the back of the card. If you prefer, you can Enter Card Details Manually by tapping the link, or you can skip setting up Apple Pay altogether by tapping Set Up Later In Wallet.
- The next screen talks about iCloud Keychain, which is Apple's secure method of sharing your stored password and payment information across all your Apple devices. You can Use iCloud Security Code to validate your new handset and import existing data, or you will be asked to Continue setting up your keychain if this is your first Apple device, but if you don't want to share secure information with other devices you should choose Don't use iCloud Keychain or Don't Restore Passwords.
- If you chose to set up your Keychain, you will be prompted to either Use Passcode (the one you've set up on your iPhone 6s) or to Create Different Code. If you're using your iCloud Security Code you'll need to enter it when prompted.
- In order to verify your identity when entering an iCloud security code, a verification code will be sent by SMS. You will need to enter a mobile phone number (if it isn't already logged with Apple) so that a code and be delivered via SMS. Enter this onscreen if requested then tap Next. If the SMS message comes to your new handset, the code will be entered automatically. If you're using another handset to receive that message, enter the code using the keyboard.
- You will then be asked about using Siri. Siri is your own digital personal assistant, which can search the internet, send messages, check information on your phone and so much more, all without having to flick through individual apps. Choose to Set up Siri by tapping the line, or if you'd rather not then tap Turn on Siri Later at the bottom of the screen.
- If you're setting up Siri, you will be asked to speak a series of phrases into the handset in order for it to recognise your voice. Follow the prompts onscreen to complete these steps.
- When Siri is ready, you will see information about how to use voice recognition. Tap Continue.
- Your iPhone has now been restored. Tap Get Started to see your data on your new iPhone 6s.
- You may be prompted to connect your new iPhone to a power supply, as downloading a substantial amount of data and apps can consume a lot of power. Tap OK to acknowledge this advice.
Now that your iPhone has been restored, click this link to move to the next stage in the setup.
Move Data from Android
Apple have made it easier than ever to move from an Android phone to your new iPhone by creating the Move to iOS app to transfer your data.
- Before you can proceed, you'll need to download the app by visiting the Play Store on your Android phone. Once installed, open the app, tap Continue and then accept the Terms & Conditions in order to use it.
- On your Android phone, tap Next to start the connection process between the phones. On your iPhone 6s, tap Continue.
- Your iPhone will display a 10-digit code which will need to be entered on the Android phone in order to make the connection between them.
- Your Android phone will then display a list of data which can be transferred. By default, they will all be ticked, so if there is anything you don't wish to transfer tap the corresponding line to deselect it. When you're ready to proceed, tap Next on your Android phone.
- As the transfer goes through you will see the iPhone 6s screen change, showing you the status of the data transfer and then a progress bar.

If you're new to iPhone, tap Don't have an Apple ID to set one up for free by following the on screen instructions.
- You will see a screen advising you how to back up your data before restoring. As you're transferring data from an Android device, you can ignore this screen, and tap Continue.
- The Terms & Conditions for using your handset will appear on screen. Read through them (tapping on any link to inspect the details contained therein) and when you're happy to proceed, tap Agree.
- Prove you really do agree with the T's & C's by tapping Agree again!
- You will be asked to merge your newly imported data with iCloud. As iCloud is Apple's backup and synchronisation service, we would recommend doing this to safeguard your data. Tap Merge or Don't Merge as appropriate.
Now that you've imported the information from your Android phone, click this link to continue the setup of your new iPhone 6s.
