A screensaver is a small program which covers your computer screen with a moving image whenever you stop using your computer. This both protects your work from prying eyes, and also stops your computer's display from becoming damaged by screen burn.
Screen burn happens when an electronic display constantly shows a static image, and results in a permanent discolouration of areas of the screen. Downloading a screensaver is the best way of avoiding this problem - not to mention making your screen look nicer too!
Where can i download screensavers?
There are lots of websites which offer free screensavers, but these often come with another price to pay, usually in the form of installing software or signing up for other offers. The sites listed here are free from any of those little catches.
Popular screensavers - http://www.popularscreensavers.com

This site is very easy to navigate and use. Move your mouse to the screensavers link just beneath the title and a panel opens up a selection of categories. Click a category to open a page full of sub-categories, and clicking on any of these shows you the available screensavers.
As you mouse over these, a highlight windows opens, allowing you to click 'Add Screensaver' to download the file. You can also 'Like' it via Facebook, or share over email, Facebook or Twitter, so you can tell your friends about the great new site you've found!
New Free Screensavers - http://newfreescreensavers.com/

Another easy to navigate site, this one really made my day as it has some screensavers for Mac computers as well as the popular Windows PCs. Category listings are down the left-hand side of the page, and clicking any of these will give you a few pages of screensavers to download. Underneath each one is a clickable link, for Windows or Mac as available, which then opens the download page.
There are also filter buttons above the thumbnail pictures allowing you to narrow your search down, which is quite handy in the larger categories such as Animal World.
CNET Download - http://download.cnet.com/windows/screensavers/
Download.com has been a great resource of freeware, shareware, and paid-for software for many years, and so it's no surprise that they have a huge selection of screensavers. Filter boxes are down the left-hand side to allow you to choose your version of Windows, to ensure that only those screensavers compatible with your computer are shown. Click the name of a screensaver to open the product information page, and when you're ready to go ahead, click the green Download button to install.

Merry Christmas from all of us here at Geek Squad!
